Expect Civility, Respect Differences

Every citizen deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. This is a lesson I tried to pass on to every student in my classroom and it’s one that lawmakers in Frankfort seem to have forgotten. Whether someone is from a different political party, disagrees about important issues of the day, or just loves and lives in a different way, we have let civility and respect fall by the wayside for too long.

Here's how we do it:

Cross-Partisan Solutions

I’m committed to being a problem solver first. Not every Republican idea is bad and not every Democratic idea is foolproof. I am absolutely committed to crossing the aisle to support a good idea whose time has come.

Commitment to Respectful Governance

Respect and dignity are the bare minimum we expect from our public school students and should be the bare minimum we expect from our lawmakers. I am committed to working to end the name calling, the headline grabbing, and the stunt pieces of legislation only meant to drive more wedges between the people and the legislature that is supposed to be working on their behalf.

“We can work hard, and even disagree, while still acting like adults who value others’ opinions. If listening to others even if we disagree is what we expect from our kids, I don’t think it’s asking too much from our lawmakers.”
